Garnet Tour (06 Days/05 Nights)
Day 01 - Meet on arrival, proceed to Sigiriya, en-route visit Pinnawala elephant orphanage. Check in at hotel for dinner & overnight stay.
Sigiriya
A stunning rock mass known as the fortress in the sky was built in the 5th century by King Kassapa, nominated as the eighth wonder in the world is a world heritage site. Sigiriya is a masterpiece of construction, irrigation & art. The highlights are the world – famous frescoe paintings, the mirror wall, the summit of the rock, 1.5 hectares, is the site of the old palace, the throne & a swimming pool. The water gardens is restored to it's former glory & is a world heritage site.
Day 02 – After breakfast climb Sigiriya Rock, leave for Trincomalee, city tour & proceed to Nilaveli Beach. Check in at hotel for dinner & overnight stay.
Trincomalee
Trincomalee is famed for it's natural harbour ranked as the world's fifth largest. The landmark is the British Fort Frederick. The cliff known as swami rock, is associated with a tragic romantic tale woven around a Dutch maiden who jumped from the rock seeing her lover sailing away., A highly venerated Hindu shrine is located inside the fort. One of the finest beaches Nilaweli is located off Trincomalee. 11 kilometers from Trincomalee are the Kanniyai Hot springs, sacred to the Hindus. A short ride off Nilaweli is the Pigeon Island, one of the few places where the Blue Rock Pigeon breeds. The water around this island is a spear-fisherman's paradise.
Day 03 – After breakfast full day at leisure. Dinner & overnight stay @ Nilaveli.
Day 04 – After early breakfast leave for Habarana, jeep safari to Minneriya/Kaudulla Park & leave for Kandy. En-route if time permits visit Dambulla cave temples. Late evening witness a cultural dance show, dinner & overnight stay at Kandy.
Kandy
The last seat of the Sinhala kings ceded power to the British in 1815 & is the most visited place in the island. Situated 488 meters above sea level, Kandy is the most popular destination for foreigners as well as for locals. It's main attraction is the Dalada Maligawa, which houses the sacred tooth relic of lord Buddha. The high light of the year is the annual perahera, held in July/august every year, when a replica of the relic casket is taken in procession for ten glittering nights accompanied by exotically costumed dancers, drummers & over 100 elephants. There are numerous shrines & temples in and around Kandy with rare paintings, frescoes & stone carvings. Visit the royal botanical gardens at peradeniya, which houses over 4000 species of plants.
Kandy is an exciting place for shopping, with souvenirs in ebony, silver, brass, bronze, lacquer works, handlooms, gemstones & batiks.
Day 05 – After breakfast, leave for airport to connect departure flight. (Airport check in: prior to 03 hrs prior to departure)
